It was reported that this cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (crt-d) has depleted from 7.5 years to 3.5 years battery remaining. Moreover, this patient has undergone a daily radiation therapy until six weeks from now.Boston scientific technical services (ts) explained that this was due to the daily telemetry and the nightly full uploads on latitude.Data analysis was requested and showed that this device was behaving in a manner consistent with frequent programmer interrogations. The power will return to normal once these interrogations conclude. The longevity impact is variable and dependent on the number and total length of the sessions. The impact will be minimized by keeping the sessions short.Furthermore, the baseline power was approximately 50 micro watts. The present average power is above 100 micro watts and is climbing. Two months of operation at twice the average power may reduce the overall longevity by 2 months when the normal power is restored.Additional information received which indicated that the average power increases slowly and may continue to rise as these interrogations continue. There is no risk of the device reaching elective replacement indicator (eri). As of this time, this device remains in service. No adverse patient effects were reported.
