Zoll medical corporation has received the product and will be providing a supplemental report when our investigation is completed.
 
Event Description
Complainant alleged that while attempting to treat a 49-year-old male patient, the device displayed an "internal comm failure - 1475" error message and stopped ventilating.Complainant indicated the crew power cycled the device to troubleshoot, however the unit would not power up.The following morning the device worked as intended.Complainant indicated that the clinician obtained another device to continue treating the patient.Complainant did not indicate that there was any adverse effect to the patient due to the reported malfunction.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
The device was returned to zoll medical corporation for evaluation.The customer's report of "the device displayed an 'internal comm failure 1475' error message" was observed during review of the forensic memory log.However, the device was put through extensive testing without duplicating the report.An internal inspection found no discrepancies.The main lithium-ion battery was replaced as a precaution.The customer's report of the device stopped ventilating and then the unit would not power up was verified and attributed to the main lithium-ion battery.The main lithium-ion battery was replaced to remedy the report.The device was recertified and returned to the customer.Analysis of reports of this type has not identified an increase in trend.
