The customer reported that during implant surgery of the syncardia temporary total artificial heart (tah-t), the surgeon observed that the companion 2 driver display of the right flow was much higher than the value of the left flow, even though the user attempted to set up the parameters correctly. The customer also reported that the surgeon observed a normal ejection in the right ventricle of the tah-t, and he inspected the tah-t valves and confirmed that they were performing as intended. The customer reported that patient was switched to the backup companion 2 driver, and normal flow parameters were observed on the driver display. There was no adverse impact on the patient. This alleged failure mode poses a low risk to the patient because it did not prevent the companion 2 driver from performing its life-sustaining functions.
