The companion 2 driver was returned to syncardia for evaluation.Visual inspection of the driver's external components revealed no anomalies.Review of the electronic patient data file revealed one "single compressor malfunction" alarm, which confirmed the reported issue.During investigation testing, the "single compressor malfunction" alarm was reproduced. The root cause was a malfunction of the right compressor, which was running as the primary compressor at the time of the alarm. The right compressor was replaced. After replacement, the driver was retested and no alarms occurred. The driver met all test performance requirements. This failure mode poses a low risk to the patient because it did not prevent the companion 2 driver from performing its life-sustaining functions. The companion 2 driver has a primary compressor and a redundant, secondary compressor, and the ability to connect to an external air source. In the event of a primary compressor malfunction, the companion 2 driver switches to operation on the secondary compressor. This issue will continue to be monitored and trended as part of the customer experience process.Syncardia has completed its evaluation of this complaint and is closing this file.(b)(4).
