As part of normal complaint follow-up, an evaluation of the event has been initiated by mako surgical.A supplemental report will be submitted when additional information becomes available.
 
Event Description
The surgeon was completing a total hip arthroplasty procedure using the robotic arm interactive orthopedic system (rio) when an error occurred in the software.The surgeon opted to finish the case using manual hip instruments.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
Reported event: an event regarding an igs error involving 3.0 rio robotic arm - mics, catalog: 209999 was reported.Method and results: device history review:a review of the dhr associated with (b)(4) found quality inspection procedures successfully passed.Complaint history: based on the device identification (pn 209999) the complaint databases were reviewed from 2011 to present for similar reported events regarding the error "can.There were no other reported events for the listed catalog number.Conclusion: the session data and dicom data from the case were reviewed.An analysis of the igs file revealed it may have been corrupted upon transfer.The size of the igs file should have been 35.5 mb while the igs file from the case was found to be 4.9mb.There is no evidence logged as to why the file size discrepancy occurred, it is likely that there was a disruption in the file transfer when exporting.No sw malfunction is suspected.
