It was reported that the patient heard an alert tone from their cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (crt-d) within 24 hours of implant and the clinic brought the patient back to the clinic. The device was interrogated and there was no indication of a carealert produced. The patient was shown the different alert tones but they could not identify the tone.It was questioned whether the unknown alert could have been due to a magnet, however, there was no additional information available. It was concluded approximately two months later that the tone was attributed to a magnet. The crt-d remains in use.No patient complications have been reported as a result of this event.
