Event Description
|
It was reported from (b)(6) that the battery oscillator device was heating up.The event was not reported to have occurred during surgery.It was not reported if there were any delays in a surgical procedure or if a spare device was available.There were no reports of injuries, medical intervention or prolonged hospitalization.The exact date of the event was unknown.However, it was reported that the event occurred in 2018.All available information has been disclosed.If additional information should become available, a supplemental medwatch report will be submitted accordingly.

Depuy synthes is submitting this report pursuant to the provisions of 21 cfr, part 803.This report may be based on information which depuy synthes has not been able to investigate or verify prior to the required reporting date.This report does not reflect a conclusion by fda, depuy synthes or its employees that the report constitutes an admission that the device, depuy synthes, or its employees caused or contributed to the potential event described in this report.The actual device was returned for evaluation.The device was evaluated and the reported condition was confirmed.A visual and functional assessment was performed which found that the unit failed oscillation frequency.It was determined that the motor was bad and there were discharges in the battery device.It was further observed that the motor drew excessive amps and was corroded.It was determined that the device failed pretests for check trigger and electronic control unit (ecu) function and check oscillating frequency.The assignable root cause was determined to be due to normal wear.If information is obtained that was not available, a follow-up medwatch will be filed as appropriate.
