|
It was reported that during set-up of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the batteries were dead and would not charge.As a result, an alternate device was employed.The surgical procedure was completed successfully.There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.

The reported complaint was confirmed.During laboratory analysis, the product surveillance technician (pst) observed the unit to operate properly throughout all testing and properly managed power transitions between alternating current (ac) and direct current (dc) including the recharge of the batteries to their full rated capacity.If additional information becomes available on this complaint that would alter the facts and/or conclusion, a supplemental report will be filed accordingly.

The field service representative (fsr) verified that the batteries were not charging.The power manager and batteries were replaced.The unit operated to the manufacturer's specifications.The suspect part was returned to the manufacturer for further evaluation.
