It was reported to boston scientific corporation on november 10, 2020 that a wallflex colonic stent was to be implanted to treat a 4cm malignant colonic obstruction due to colorectal cancer in the rectum during a colonoscopy with stent placement procedure performed on (b)(6) 2020.Reportedly, the patient's anatomy was slightly tortuous and was not dilated prior to stent placement.According to the complainant, during the procedure, the guidewire was advance through the stent, however, resistance was felt mid-way and the guidewire was unable to exit at the top of the deployment handle.A saline solution was injected though the scope to attempt to float the guidewire and then the physician attempted to remove the stent from the scope. However, upon removal, the stent prematurely deployed inside the scope at the biopsy cap.The stent was removed from the patient with the scope and the procedure was completed with another wallflex colonic stent of different size. There were no patient complications reported as a result of this event.
