Event Description
Medtronic received information that during use of this bio-console instrument during an extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ecmo) case using the instrument and motor after 90 minutes of use, the patient was assembled and ecmo support was started with the new equipment, and a low flow alarm presented at the half hour.The customer stated that there was no presence of cavitation, or obstruction in the flow and the flowmeter was properly placed.The customer did not observe changes in the rpm, so they changed to the manual motor (hand crank), and then the external motor was changed and the support was reset with the patient at 65%, during the event.No hemodynamic changes were observed.Use of instrument was unspecified and there was no adverse patient effect associated with this event.Additional information was received on 15 april 2021 stating that the hand crank was used for less than 30 minutes.
