Event Description
It was reported that the entire cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (crt-d) system was explanted due to infection.The system will be replaced with a competitor system.No further patient complications have been reported as a result of this event.
 
Event Description
It was further reported that three weeks post crt-d system implant with an antibacterial absorbable envelope the patient presented for a wound check where it was noted that the patient had an open wound with dark red drainage.The patient was started on antibiotics.Five days later the patient returned for another wound check and it was noted that the wound was still open with dark red drainage and the device was visible with skin changes around the site described as grossly infected appearing dusky and necrotic.The patient was admitted to the hospital.Upon review of a chest x-ray a small right pleural effusion and moderate pulmonary edema were also noted.The patient is a participant in a clinical study.
