Event Description
|
It was reported there was a foreign body left in patient after closing of hip.It was discovered in post op x-ray during patient recovery in pacu.The foreign body was believed to be piece of the flexible drill shaft.The surgeon attempted a second surgery later that day to retrieve the debris/foreign object but was unsuccessful.Attempts have been made and additional information on the reported event is unavailable at this time.

This follow-up report is being submitted to relay additional information.The following sections were updated/corrected updated: g3; h2; h3; h4; h6.Radiographs were provided and reviewed by a health care professional.Review of the available records identified anatomic alignment of the left hip arthroplasty.Retained metallic foreign object as noted device history record (dhr) was reviewed and no discrepancies were found.Root cause of the event could not be determined.If any further information is found which would change or alter any conclusions or information, a supplemental will be filed accordingly.Zimmer biomet will continue to monitor for trends.
