Manufacturer Narrative
The syncardia 70cc temporary total artificial heart (tah-t) is an implantable pulsatile biventricular replacement device that replaces a patient's native ventricles and valves and pumps blood to both the pulmonary and systemic circulation systems. The syncardia 70cc tah-t is indicated for use as a bridge to transplantation in cardiac transplant-eligible candidates at risk of imminent death from biventricular failure. The syncardia tah-t system is intended for use inside and outside the hospital. The freedom driver is an external driver that provides pneumatic power to the tah-t.The patient was implanted with a tah-t on (b)(6) 2017, however, due to his antibodies, a suitable match is not anticipated. The the patient shared with the hospital and syncardia staff that he is at his wits end because after 5 years of being supported by the syncardia tah-t and freedom driver his marriage has fallen apart, he will be homeless, he has no job or caregiver and is having difficulty getting visas to get a family member into the usa to help him.Patient stated that the noise of the freedom driver is disruptive to his activities of daily living (adls) and he is self-conscious.He cannot go out to eat, socialize, drive or work and everyone stares at him.He wants to go see his family or have his family come see him and it has been a severe burden on him mentally to try to get anything done.Based on the provided information there is no evidence to indicate any device malfunctions or performance issues of the device that would impact the reported event. This issue will be monitored and trended as part of the customer complaint process.Syncardia has completed its evaluation and is closing this file.If new or additional information is received in the future, syncardia will file a follow-up mdr.
