Event Description
It was reported that during priming of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the centrifugal motor cord was damaged with exposed wires.As a result, an alternate device was employed.The surgical procedure was completed successfully.There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
The field service representative (fsr) confirmed the reported complaint.She replaced the centrifugal motor.Verification/release testing was performed.The unit operated to the manufacturer's specifications.During laboratory evaluation, the product surveillance technician (pst) observed the motor cord to be damaged.The centrifugal motor was attached to laboratory use only (luo) testing equipment and was found to function as intended.The cord was agitated and found not to affect the pump performance.
 
Event Description
Per clinical review: on 27apr2022, the team experienced a problem with their heart lung machine.While priming, it was discovered that the centrifugal motor drive cable was damaged, with exposed wires.The centrifugal motor unit was replaced.There was no delay and no blood loss, and the surgery was completed successfully.
