It was reported that a burst occurred in the catheter. The target lesion was located in a moderately tortuous and moderately calcified superficial femoral artery.A 2.1mm jetstream xc atherectomy catheter was selected for an atherectomy procedure. After the first pass, and when attempting a second pass, all activity of the device stopped and there was a visible kink in the catheter. When attempting to "walk the device out" using the rex button; however, a rupture in the top plastic layer of the catheter was found. The catheter was removed from the patient intact, and the procedure was completed with plain old balloon angioplasty. There were no patient complications reported.
