Event Description
Medtronic received information via literature regarding assessment of leaflet function in mechanical prosthetic heart valves.  all data were collected from a single center between january 1, 1994 and december 31, 2019.  the study population included 68 patients who were predominantly female with a mean age of 46.9 years.  multiple manufacturer¿s devices were implanted in the study population; 37 patients were implanted with a medtronic ats mechanical heart valve in the aortic or mitral position.  no unique device identifier numbers were provided.Among all patients four deaths occurred post-operatively. no further details were provided on the deaths.  there was no statement of causal or contributory relationship between medtronic product and the deaths.Among all patients, adverse events included: leaflet immobilized due to valvular thrombosis (all cases successfully treated with thrombolytic therapy), valvular regurgitation, and patient-prosthesis mismatch.  based on the available information medtronic product may have been associated with the adverse events. No additional adverse patient effects or product performance issues were reported.
