Event Description
Medtronic received information that one day post implant of this temporary pacing lead, it was reported that when the dressing and a green needle was removed, it was observed that the lead had snapped into two portions about 2 inches from the skin.It was thought that "there was just enough of the exposed wire from that plastic casing, to attempt inserting it into the pacing connection if needed." both portions of the product were removed immediately and it was stated that no intervention was required as a result of the pacing lead snapping. It was mentioned that the lead attached to the pacemaker was connected to the patient by a green needle and one pacing wire.It was stated that there was the "green needle present and in the external pacing wire to complete the circuit for ventricular pacing." it was noted that staff are familiar in the use of this model of pacing lead.It was stated that the lead had been inspected prior to use with no issues noted. No additional adverse patient effects were reported.
