Event Description
Literature was reviewed regarding a patient who had undergone aortic valve replacement with a medtronic 21-mm mosaic bioprosthetic valve 14 years prior.  more recently the patient presented with sudden respiratory distress, and was diagnosed with severe aortic regurgitation and acute heart failure secondary to low cardiac function. subsequently the patient underwent successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement with a non-medtronic bioprosthetic valve with no residual aortic regurgitation. the patient was intubated and discharged from the operating room on a mechanical ventilator. On the second day postoperative the patient was weaned from the ventilator and was transferred to rehabilitation.  no further information pertaining to medtronic products was noted.

Additional information received from the physician/author stated that the new valve was implanted as a surgical-valve-in-transcatheter-valve procedure, and therefore the medtronic valve remained in the patient.
