Event Description
Medtronic received information that during use of an ap40 centrifugal blood pump, it was reported that due to severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ards), the patient underwent veno-venous- extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (vv-ecmo) adjuvant therapy with medtronic extracorporeal membrane lung machine in the early morning of april 22.However, at around 07:00 in the morning on april 22, the ecmo centrifugal pump suddenly made an abnormal sound, which could not be eliminated after restarting.The extracorporeal membrane lung machine was replaced in time, and the patient's vital signs did not change significantly.An expiration date was not found on the device.There was no adverse patient effect associated with this event.Medtronic received additional information that the console serial number was (b)(6).The matching adapter position was correct when using the pump.The noise was coming from the pump head.No leaks were noted with the device.The use time of the pump was about 8 hours.The pump support shaft was broken.The failure of the pump endangered the life of the patient, and the hospital finally switched to other brands of machine to treat the patient.
