Event Description
Senseonics was made aware of an incident where patient reported an infection at the insertion site.The sensor was inserted on (b)(6) 2023 and the symptoms was first observed on (b)(6) 2023.The customer reported that the insertion area became swollen and hard and the would opened, bled and oozed.The customer consulted hcp who prescribed amoxicillin antibiotics.However, the customer wanted to request hcp for sensor removal.The customer scheduled an appointment with the hp for sensor removal on (b)(6) 2023.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
This report is being submitted retrospectively as part of internal review.A review of the device's manufacturing records revealed that the sensor lot met all requirements including sterilization requirements for release.The sensor is inserted by making a small incision and placing it under skin and potential for developing skin irritation/swelling/pain/ inflammation/infection around the insertion site is a known anticipated adverse event.The symptoms were first observed on (b)(6) 2023 and the patient consulted hcp who prescribed amoxicillin antibiotics.Although the infection got better after taking antibiotics, the customer wanted to request hcp for sensor removal and scheduled an appointment with the hcp for sensor removal on (b)(6) 2023.This incident does not require any further investigation.
