Event Description
It was reported that this cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (crt-d) was suspected of consuming 120 percent more power than expected causing the battery estimate calculation to decrease from eight years to seven and half years in a three-month period. It was also noted that the patient visited the clinic due to audible beeping tones heard from the crtd device. The health care professional (hcp) experienced difficulties interrogating the device and called technical services (ts) for assistance.Troubleshooting attempts were made by placing a magnet over the device and a noise was produced.Ts discussed with hcp that the magnet response from a boston scientific device product would emit a beeping tone and suspects that the noise emitted from that device suggests that the device is from a non-boston scientific product. The device remains in service. No adverse patient effects were reported.
