It was reported that before implantation, the surgeon noticed some scratches on the oxford bearing implant.A backup bearing was used to complete the surgery.This event is related to a malfunction that could potentially lead to a serious injury.However, no patient harm or further outcome was reported.Due diligence is in progress for this complaint; to date no additional information or product has been received.

(b)(4).This follow-up report is being submitted to relay additional information.Visual examination of the returned product confirms that there are scratches on the bottom of the bearing and on the edge of the articulating surface.There are some dings on the part as well.A review of the device manufacturing records confirmed no abnormalities or deviations that could be related to the reported event.With the available information, a definitive root cause could not be determined.If any further information is found which would change or alter any conclusions or information, a supplemental report will be filed accordingly.Zimmer biomet will continue to monitor for trends.
