Event Description
It was reported that during set-up of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the air bubble detector (abd) was intermittently giving false alarms.As a result, an alternate device was employed.The surgical procedure was completed successfully.There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
The field service representative (fsr) duplicated the reported complaint as the abd sensor sn (b)(6) was alarming with no air in the tubing.The fsr replaced the sensor with sn (b)(6) and the issue remained.The fsr replaced the second sensor with another sensor, sn (b)(6) and the issue was resolved.The unit operated to the manufacturer's specifications.
