Per the perfusionist, the heart lung machine was moved to another room and ran for two hours, and the issue did not present again.The field service representative (fsr) could not duplicate the reported complaint.The fsr replaced the cable assembly peripheral component interconnect (pci) bus interface in the ccm.The unit operated to the manufacturer's specifications.

It was reported that during set-up of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the central control monitor (ccm) displayed a 'system computer needs service' message.The system was restarted and ran for 15-20 minutes, and the issue reoccurred.As a result, an alternate device was employed.The surgical procedure was completed successfully.There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.
