Event Description
It was reported that patient underwent heart transplantation on (b)(6) 2024.The patient was elevated to status 3 due to driveline infection.Frist driveline infection was noted (b)(6) 2021 with staph aureus 2+.This was treated and cleared with oral antibiotics.On (b)(6) 2023, a new culture resulted with serratia marcescens 1+, staph aureus 1+, and pseudomonas aeruginosa which was treated with intravenous (iv) antibiotics.The patient's follow-up culture on (b)(6) 2023 was positive for gram negative rods and serratia marcescens 1+.They continued iv antibiotics.Then, follow-up wound culture on (b)(6) 2024 resulted with no growth.The device operated as expected.Driveline infection noted on (b)(6) 2023 is captured under mfr 2916596-2023-05853.Driveline infection on (b)(6) 2023 and (b)(6) 2023 is captured under mfr 2916596-2024-01852.

Manufacturer's investigation conclusion: a correlation between the device and the report of infection could not be conclusively determined.Infection is listed in the instructions for use as a potential adverse event that may be associated with the use of heartmate 3 left ventricular assist system.Infection has been previously investigated and will continue to be monitored through quality data reviews, which are conducted on production and post product signals to evaluate if products are conforming to product requirements.No further information was provided.The manufacturer is closing the file on this event.
