(b)(6).The device was returned for service; however, did not meet manufacturing specifications during pre-repair assessment.Reliability engineering evaluated the device and the reported condition was confirmed.The assignable root cause was determined to be due to normal wear.If additional information should become available, a supplemental medwatch report will be sent accordingly.

It was reported from (b)(6) that the reciprocating saw attachment device was frozen and not functioning.During an in-house engineering evaluation, it was observed that the device was found to run but heated up.It was also noted that the device had damaged bearings and worn and damaged drive shaft and eccentric coupling.It was also noted that the device had a damaged needle bearing (one needle came out) and worn cone sleeve.The event was not reported to have occurred during surgery.It was not reported if there were any delays in a scheduled surgical procedure or if a spare device was available for use.There were no reports of injuries, medical intervention or prolonged hospitalization.The exact date of this event was unknown.All available information has been disclosed.If additional information should become available, a supplemental medwatch report will be submitted accordingly.
