It was reported that during set-up of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the monitor would intermittently shut off and immediately turn back on.As a result, an alternate device was employed. The surgical procedure was completed successfully. There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.

The field service representative (fsr) was unable to duplicate the shutdown of the monitor. The bus cable was replaced as a precaution. The unit operated to the manufacturer's specifications.During laboratory analysis, the product surveillance technician (pst) installed the returned cable into a lab use cardioplegia (cpg) monitor. The pst operated the cpg monitor for three days with no failure of the monitor to power on and no loss of power occurred. He flexed the cable during operation of the monitor but that did not cause failure. If additional information becomes available on this complaint that would alter the facts and/or conclusion, a supplemental report will be filed accordingly.
