A physician reported that approximately six to eight weeks following a cataract extraction with an intraocular lens (iol) implant procedure, the patient developed a delayed fungal infection.The patient was treated with steroid eye drops.Vitreous inflammation was observed and the surgeon thought it was delayed endophthalmitis.The patient was referred to a retinal specialist and a vitrectomy was performed two weeks ago.A culture was taken and yeast was found in the vitreous.According to the physician, the results on the culture are still pending for the exact organism.All treatment was stopped yesterday.The patient was seen today and the patient is doing fine.Additional information has been requested.
