Event Description
It was reported that the employee was placing the tube into the bd vacutainer® urine collection cup to collect the urine specimen during use when they "slipped" and stuck themselves on the needle.The er was visited, but no treatment was given as no wound or bleeding was observed.This complaint was created to capture the 1st of 2 related incidents.The following information was provided by the initial reporter: "female staff claimed to have accidentally stuck her finger on the hole of the lid of the urine cup and stated that she got stuck while collecting the urine into the tube.Employee was not given first aid as there was no wound or bleeding observed.The laboratory out patient client service staff claimed that there were 2 incidents of needle stick injury.One was was when the sticker on top of the hole was taken out and she slipped and stuck herself and the other time was when she stuck the tube into the hole to transfer the urine specimen into the tube when she sipped and stuck herself on the needle.She went to the er for treatment but was not treated due to absence of any wound.Employee also complained of safety risk.".
