The Mini Sentinel pilot is addressing the many complex issues that need to be resolved: ownership, privacy and how such a network will be governed. There are also methodological issues; if you cannot share all the primary and summary data, how do you merge those data from multiple sources? What designs and what analytic methods are best adapted to this distributed data network? How can greatest efficiency be obtained? A number of public meetings have addressed the Sentinel initiative and achievements of its two pilots: Mini Sentinel leveraging privately held data and the Federal Partners Collaboration involving data from CMS, DoD and the VA.
