Information provided by the manufacturer and regulated by FDA is called "patient labeling" and the main form of this information is the "Medication Guide." To require a Medication Guide, FDA must determine that a drug product poses a serious and significant public health concern requiring distribution of FDA-approved patient information with every prescription. There are regulations that describe Medication Guide content and format, and the criteria the product has to meet.
