ASTM E2578-07 (Reapproved 2022) Standard Practice for Calculation of Mean Sizes/Diameters and Standard Deviations of Particle Size Distributions |
|
Scope/Abstract1.1 The purpose of this practice is to present procedures for calculating mean s and standard deviations of distributions given as histogram data (see Practice E1617). The particle is assumed to be the diameter of an equivalent sphere, for example, equivalent (area/surface/volume/perimeter) diameter.
1.2 The mean s/diameters are defined according to the Moment-Ratio (M-R) definition system.2,3,4
1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. |
