Event Description
Information was received from a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for urinary dysfunction/sacral nerve stim and gastrointestinal/pelvic floor therapy. It was reported that since implant, the therapy had not worked well for the patient; they were not satisfied and still wore pads. Also, if they ever turned stimulation up high enough to help with their bladder, then poop would come out, which didn't happen before. They stated that this got worse, and 'therapy issues may have been going on for 4 months or so,' but the timeframe was unknown.Troubleshooting included trying to increase on the call. They noted seeing the 'turn stim on' icon, so they turned it on and felt stim sensation. The patient stated that they had some tests in the hospital in march (unrelated to the device/therapy), and they didn't think they had tried changing any settings since march.Possible causes of the stimulation being off were discussed including: it being turned off for the tests in march and not being turned back on, it being accidentally turned off, and the patient thought maybe it was due to the programmer batteries going dead and having been changed. However, no cause was confirmed. It was recommended that they follow up with their healthcare professional to discuss their symptoms.
