A male patient underwent an aquablation procedure for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (bph).Procept biorobotics corporation became aware that during the procedure clots began to form at the bladder neck despite multiple attempts to cauterize the area. The source of the bleeding could not be identified, and adequate hemostasis could not be achieved (per manufacturer's instructions for use, bleeding is a potential perioperative risk of the aquablation procedure). An angiogram was performed, and two (2) arterial bleeders were identified on the patient's right side into the bladder and one (1) arterial bleeder on the left side. The patient underwent a prostatic artery embolization (pae) procedure and was also administered five (5) units of blood transfusion. The patient was left in the intensive care unit (icu) overnight for observation. The patient was reported to be in good condition. No malfunction of the aquabeam robotic system was reported.
