Event Description
|
It was reported that the battery pack attached to device was found to be extremely hot on opening of sterile pack so it was not used.The event occurred before use.Battery pack also expelled puff of smoke/fluid.It was removed from the patient area and the battery was disconnected from device and opened.Battery disconnected from circuit and allowed to cool down.There was no harm or delay involved.No adverse events were reported as a result of this malfunction.

This event has been recorded by zimmer biomet under (b)(4).E1: zip code: (b)(6).Visual examination of the returned product/provided pictures identified the batteries had leaked inside the battery pack, as there was damage to the battery housing.The batteries were covered in a crystalized material.Review of the device history record(s) identified no deviations or anomalies during manufacturing.Device is used for treatment.Review of complaint history identified additional similar complaints for the reported item(s)/part family and no additional complaints for the reported part and lot combination(s).Complaints are monitored through monthly complaint review in order to identify potential adverse trends.A definitive root cause cannot be determined.Actions have been previously initiated to address this issue.The event is confirmed.
