A lead extraction procedure commenced to remove a right atrial (ra) and a right ventricular (rv) lead due to non function.A spectranetics lead locking device was inserted into the ra lead to provide a traction platform to aid in extraction (the rv lead was fractured at the clavicle, so an lld was not used). However, the ra lead was bound to the rv lead.Since this was a class ii extraction indication, the physician made the decision to abandon the extraction and cap the lead.He attempted to remove the lld from the ra lead prior to capping, but was unsuccessful. The procedure finished with no reported patient harm. This report is being submitted to capture the lld present within the ra lead that was cut/capped and remained in the patient.
