Event Description
|
It was reported that during a hip procedure, the head of the screw broke off while being inserted into the cup.The threaded portion was left in the patient and the procedure continued.Attempts have been made and additional information on the reported event is unavailable at this time.

Complaint sample was evaluated and the reported event was confirmed.Visual examination of the returned product identified the bone screw fractured at the top thread just below the tapered portion of the screw.Taper and underside of screw head show witness marks from use.Outer diameter of screw head shows deformation and damage around the circumference.No other damage was noted.Bone screw sample analyzed by sem showed that it suspected to have fractured due to torsional overload.Review of the device history record identified no deviations or anomalies during manufacturing related to the reported event.A definitive root cause cannot be determined.If any further information is found which would change or alter any conclusions or information, a supplemental will be filed accordingly.Zimmer biomet will continue to monitor for trends.
