It was reported that during arthroscopy surgery the needle broke off inside the patient.The broken off piece has not been retrieved from the patient.There was no harm or adverse event for patient, operator or third party reported.The surgery was finished successfully with a new device with the same part number.It was not necessary to switch the surgical technique or do a second surgery.No further information received.

Complaint confirmed.Visual evaluation confirms the tip of needle broken off approx.0.01 in.The thickness of the needle point was assessed using digital micrometer and met design specifications.Functional evaluation could not be performed due to the broken condition of the device.The cause of the event is undetermined, however a likely cause is user-applied mechanical forces.
