Zoll medical corporation has received the product and will be providing a supplemental report when our investigation is completed.

Event Description
Complainant alleged that while attempting to cariovert a patient (age & gender unknown), an arc was heard from the electrode pads.Complainant indicated that there was no adverse effect to the patient due to the reported malfunction.

Manufacturer Narrative
The electordes were returned to zoll medical corporation for evaluation. The customer's report was not replicated or confirmed.A visual inspection found no signs of any burns or arcing. However, the electrode pads had some unshaven hair stuck to the foam. The electrode labeling provides instructions for proper electrode application technique and patient preparation.Part of that preparation, would be to remove any hair.Additionally, the operator guide indicates: "during defibrillation therapy, the patient can experience burn and redness due to high measure patient impedance." good skin preparation does not guarantee a burn will not occur and burns from defibrillation is an expected risk.Analysis of reports of this type has not identified an increase in trend.
