Event Description
It was reported that during priming of the device for a cardiopulmonary bypass (cpb) procedure, the blood parameter monitor (bpm) carbon dioxide (co2) reading was high after the priming solution containing plasmaclyte was used. The surgical procedure was completed successfully. There was no delay, no blood loss, nor adverse consequences to the patient.

Manufacturer Narrative
Per the perfusionist, the bpm reference material stated that prime solutions containing acetate ions (such as the plasmalyte) can cause damage to the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pco2) sensor and that they may not have been using the correct priming solution. After following the user manual carefully, the issue was resolved.
