Event Description
|
Information was received from a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for gastrointestinal/ pelvic floor.The reason for call was the patient reported they had a surgical procedure and the stimulator was turned off.Patient presently has therapy back on again but is having incontinence and is wearing pads and every time they stand up from sitting they are wetting their pants.Patient was not previously having incontinence but they fell and had a subdermal hematoma and had a foley catheter.Patient had been getting up quite a bit during the night and so they requested to keep the foley catheter so patient could get some rest.Patient also had an infection which they had antibiotics for.Patient thinks the incontinence has been going on for a while since their surgery but it is hard to say because patient has been using foley catheters.The patient had to use a catheter, and patient is trying to prevent another infection.Patient requested assistance changing programs.Reviewed how to change programs.Recommended patient consult with managing physician regarding the incontinence.

Additional information was received from the patient.They reported that the steps taken to resolve the issue were to change programs to improve frequency and urgency.The issue is not yet resolved.When asked if they experienced urinary retention prior to the device they indicated it was unknown.The indicated that the retention has not worsened as a result of the device or therapy.Catheterization was a standard of care prior to the device.
