Event Description

Information was received from a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for urinary dysfunction/sacral nerve stim.It was reported that they were driving in a car and the device surged on them.It was painful and excruciating pain in the vagina area.They have had the stimulation off for years.Patient had the system for a year and a half when the surge occurred.This issue occurred around 2016.Patient said they have had multiple falls.They have had a rash on the same side as the device is on.Went to a dermatologist about a year or longer.Has a rash and a constant itch.Patient said, they had considered it maybe related to the device.It will not go away with creams, injections, and pain pills.

Additional information was received from the patient.The caller reported that the ins battery is depleted.Caller was seeing poor communication on the pt programmer.Reviewed that is likely due to the battery being depleted.Reviewed they may need to get the hcp involved to confirm that that ins battery is depleted.Reviewed that a depleted battery has no output.Reviewed risk associated with a spine mri with this device/lead.The caller reports "well, it shocked me anyway, while i was driving back in 2016" as documented in original call.The caller reports that they have had it off since then and she had to find a place to pull over to turn therapy off.Pss reviewed that we recommend therapy be turned off while behind the wheel.The caller reports not knowing this.Explained reasoning.The caller asked about alternative imaging that they can have, reviewed ct, x-ray, pet and diagnostic ultrasound.The caller reported that their neurologist told them that they can have a spine mri as long as the therapy is off.Reviewed that the neurologist is welcome to call in to discuss guidelines.
