Event Description
Medtronic received information that during use of a bio-medicus life support cannula, it was reported that after the perfusionist started the extra corporeal life support (ecls) with the 25 fr.Life-support cannula, the customer noticed that the non-reinforced clamp area behind the connector collapsed completely. The use of the device was unspecified. There was no adverse patient effect associated with this event. The patient in this case was not harmed, but the customer complained, that if something like this happens unnoticed under a bandage in the intensive care unit, this is of course an immense source of danger, because no one might think directly of a collapsed cannula as the cause of poor ecls flow.
