Event Description
The hospital reported an employee was working to replace the inlay at the bottom of the surgical table, when his right hand came across the sharp edge of the inlay causing a laceration to his right hand.The employee reportedly requested stiches.Ge healthcare will submit a follow-up report when the investigation has been completed.
 
Manufacturer Narrative
Ge healthcareâs (gehc) investigation has been completed.The root cause of the laceration was use error.The gehc employee did not wear cut-resistant gloves during the repair process.Gehc environmental health and safety created a safety communication to create additional awareness that cut-resistant gloves should be worn during the repair process.In addition, as continuous improvement, clarity will be provided in product service manuals for use of protective equipment when performing repairs.
