Event Description
|
Information was received from a patient who was implanted with an implantable neurostimulator (ins) for urinary dysfunction/sacral nerve stim and bowel dysfunction/sacral nerve stim.The reason for call was patient inquired if they can have "this taken out of me".Pt clarified they want to have their implanted system removed because they have had excruciating pain in their left leg.Patient stated they have fallen 5 times in the last month and stated "it has got to be this thing" because pt stated they "turned it off" yesterday morning at 5:30am and by 6:00 pt stated their pain in their leg was gone.Pt stated this morning pain has come back a little bit but not as severe.Pt reported they were hurting so bad yesterday they were praying to god "take me".Pt stated this first started about a month ago.Pt stated they fell and were in the hospital for 4 days.Pt stated they also fell in the hospital and broke their foot/toes in the hospital and since they have come home pt reported they have fallen 3 more times.Pt stated they have fallen a total of 5 times in a month.Reviewed role of patient services and redirected pt to their healthcare provider to discuss desire to have implanted system removed/to check implanted system.Pt then inquired "is it off in your system" and inquired if by turning off their communicator if "everything is off back there".Reviewed external device general overview and therapy overview.Reviewed how to connect with pt's implant to check therapy status.Once pt connected with their ins on the call pt stated therapy was on.Pt successfully turned therapy off during the call and will monitor now that therapy is off.The patient was redirected to their healthcare provider to further address the issue.
