It was reported that the deep brain stimulation (dbs) patient experienced poor wound healing at the site of the left brain lead and burr hole cover. The patient underwent a revision procedure where the physician opened the existing wound and didn't find any purulent discharge therefore didn't explant the entire lead. The physician carefully explanted the burr hole cover base ring, clip and cap, then secured the lead in place using a dog bone cranial fixation device. The wound was then cleaned, and the burr hole was filled with antibiotic loaded cement. The patient was administered iv antibiotics post procedure and was stable.Culture taken was positive, however, the exact organism type was not available. The explanted burr hole cover was retained by the facility and was not returned to bsc.
