|
Medtronic received information regarding an external drainage and monitoring system.It was reported that cerebrospinal fluid (csf) had leaked onto the floor from the drain.It was found that the tubing at the bottom of the graduated cylinder collection had separated and partially torn away.The drain was immediately clamped at the patient.The entire drain was changed out at the point of the 3 way stopcock closest to the patient using aseptic technique.The patient's status at the time of the report was alive-no injury.

Additional information received reported that the drain was leaking csf onto the flow from a break in the tubing just below the graduated cylinder collection.It appeared the tubing pulled away from the insertion site.
