A peritoneal dialysis (pd) patient experienced a breach in aseptic technique which resulted in peritonitis.The breach in aseptic technique was not further described.The peritonitis was manifested by cloudy effluent and patient felt slightly unwell.The same day as the initial symptom onset, the patient was treated with ancef (1.5g, discontinued after two days) and ceftazidime (1.5g, discontinued after two days) for peritonitis.Two days after the initial symptom onset, the patient was hospitalized and treated with vancomycin (1.5g, discontinued on the same day) for peritonitis.The patient was discharged (seven days after hospital admission).At the time of this report, the patient was recovering from the event.The pd catheter was removed and the patient was transferred to hemodialysis.It was not reported if the patient was retrained on the proper aseptic technique.No additional information is available.
