Event Description
It was reported that during an irreversible electroporation ablation procedure using a farawave catheter the patient experienced cardiac tamponade.During the procedure the physician was having a difficult time reaching the left superior pulmonary vein (lspv) and right superior pulmonary vein (rspv) after isolating the inferior pulmonary veins. The farawave and sheath were removed in order to attempt a second transeptal puncture to allow better access to the superior pulmonary veins. However, at that time the physician noticed the cardiac moment was different and an echocardiogram was performed and tamponade was identified.A pericardial puncture was performed and the tamponade was drained, after which the patient was stable and admitted to the emergency care center. The procedure was not completed due to the interventions that took place for the tamponade. The catheter is not expected to be returned as it was disposed of by the site.
