It was reported to boston scientific corporation that an rx cytology brush was used in the biliary tree during an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ercp) procedure performed on (b)(6) 2014.According to the complainant, during the procedure, the brush was passed over the guidewire and into the biliary tree.The physician brushed the site; however the brush got caught on the guidewire and bent, making the brush unable to retract back into the catheter.The guidewire and the brush were removed at the same time, thus completing the procedure.There were no patient complications reported as a result of this event.

The complainant was unable to report the lot number; therefore, the manufacture date and expiration date are unknown.However, the complainant stated that the device was used prior to the expiration date.Reported event of brush bent.The device has not been received for analysis.Upon receipt and completion of the failure analysis of the complaint device, if there is any further relevant information from that review, a supplemental mdr will be filed.
